Great faith is born out of great trials. I often think, “Oh! To have faith like Corrie Ten Boom!” But in order to have that kind of faith, you have to go through some things. Some bad things. Some downright terrible things.
Since the age of about 14, I have studied the atrocities and the history of WWII. I often ask myself, “Do I have what it takes to survive a Nazi death camp? Would my children make it? Would they be able to persevere, to still proclaim their faith in the One true God? Have I done right by them? Have I set the example? Am I leaving a legacy of faith?”
Jesus, search my heart.
If you have never read “The Hiding Place” by Corrie Ten Boom, do not read another book until you have turned every last page in this autobiographical account. It is her story of surviving the Holocaust. She was a Christian in Holland that hid Jews. And, eventually, she and her sister were caught and sent to a camp. It is heart-wrenching, agonizing, and faith building.
