I am in no way an expert at anything, least of all satanism. My information comes from my husband and what he has learned on his own and from the satanists in the prison community and from research I have done through the official church of satan website and Wikipedia. As with all things research, I do not just go internet-article hopping. That is a dangerous thing! Always try to go to a reputable source, especially when dealing with other people’s beliefs.
Two Types of Satanism
- Theistic: Theistic Satanism (also known as Traditional Satanism, Spiritual Satanism or Devil Worship) is a form of Satanism with the primary belief that Satan is an actual deity or force to revere or worship. Other characteristics of Theistic Satanism may include a belief in magic, which is manipulated through ritual, although that is not a defining criterion, and theistic Satanists may focus solely on devotion. Unlike the LaVeyan Satanism founded by Anton LaVey in the 1960s, Theistic Satanism is theistic as opposed to atheistic, believing that Satan is a real being rather than a symbol of individualism. So when someone states that they are a satanist, you might could start the conversation with “Atheistic or theistic?” People who are usually just going for shock value generally won’t have taken the time to educate themselves, so you might get “Huh?” as a response from them.
I have always been interested in observing people and studying them and why they are the way they are, why they believe what they believe. Most of the time, they don’t even know. That is why it is essential that I educate myself on not only Christianity but on other religious beliefs. I encourage you to do the same, but pray before you go delving into studies of other religions. Don’t be swayed. There is always some truth in every lie. That’s what makes it so believable.
Let’s play Jeopardy!
Answer: This person chose satanism based on the conflicts he found in this religious group.
If you chose “Question: What are Christians?” then sadly, my friend, you are the winner.
And let’s add to that a quote by a little bald-headed guy otherwise known as Ghandi.
I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.–Ghandi
I’m not trying to beat anybody up. But we all know this is a problem. That’s why I make it a point to study to show myself approved. I know why I believe what I believe. Do you know why you believe what you believe? Are you religion x because your family is religion x or are your religious beliefs grounded in Jesus’ teachings? Most atheists or satanists will be able to out-debate you when it comes to what the Bible says.
Studying the Word is not enough. You have to live by the Word. More than just your soul depends on it. You have a responsibility to draw in the lost. Those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth (John 4:24). You will have the fruit of the spirit. It is one fruit. You have to have them all to have the fruit. There are plenty of other religions that hold to these same principles, but they are missing the truth. Jesus is the truth (John 14:6).
A Closer Look
The satanist that I will be building my articles around is atheistic.
He wasn’t always a satanist. He was an active member in Christian churches. He kept going from church to church, because he never could find a church that lined up with what the Bible taught. In the end, he decided God wasn’t real and he has put on the cloak of atheistic satanism—living to serve oneself. This guy is extremely well-educated, especially when it comes to the Bible. Just another example that having knowledge is not enough.
I felt it was necessary to lay this foundation, before I delve into the heart of the subject. There are lots of misconceptions floating around out there. The story is still unfolding, but I will be adding to this series this week to bring you up to speed.
As usual, I look forward to any and all comments, private or public.
